This article explains how to use Segmentation labels in rules. If you would like to learn more about the Performance Segmentation feature and how to set it up, please read this help center article first.
1 Using Performance Segmentation in rules
2 Sending the segmentation labels to Google Ads.
Once segmentation is set up, the labels (Stars, Underperformers, Potentials, and Invisible) can be used in Rules. To select these 'segmentation' fields, you go to the rules section of the export feed/API or shopping ads generator you want to use it for.
1. Using Performance Segmentation in rules
Let's examine an example. When creating a new rule, you click on “All” in the IF part of the rule. From there, select the Insights dashboard you want to use. On the right, a new column opens with all the Insights fields for that specific dashboard. You can click on any of these fields to start setting up rules for your specific strategy. To use the label segments, you need to use the field 'segmentation'.
After selection, you can choose any of the labels to create a specific rule to support your strategy.
Furthermore, after these rules or segmentations are created, you will probably want to have those segments in your Google Ads account. There are 3 options to do it.
2. Sending the segmentation labels to Google Ads.
Option 1) As a custom label through a data feed if you send products to the Merchant Center via Channable
If you are going to send products to the Merchant Center via Channable, follow the instructions to set up a Google Shopping feed first.
If you are already sending products to the Merchant Center via Channable, you can add a custom_label to the current feed. This way, you can set up campaigns in Google Ads with the products with that specific label.
To do this, go to Feeds -> Google Shopping feed -> Finalize tab. Choose Insights Dashboard → 'Segmentation' as an internal field for g:custom_label_0 for example:
Option 2) Through a Channable Google Ads generator
Use this option to use these specific labels to create campaigns in our PPC tool. To do this, you first create a new field in the “Setup project fields” by clicking on Setup -> Setup project fields -> Scroll down -> “+Add project field” -> create a Text field called “performance_label” for example:
If you want to create a campaign per segmentation label, go to Shopping Ads -> Create Ads Generator. Then, you create a rule that fills this custom field with the Segmentation label names for the Shopping Ads Generator:
After that, you go to the Campaigns tab. Here, you choose “performance_label” as a dynamic field. Then, a campaign per each label will be created.
Option 3) As a custom label through a data feed separately from the main data feed
If you are already sending products to the Merchant Center via another tool, you can add custom labels by using a supplemental feed. Within Channable you can create a custom XML feed with the help of this Help Center article. Then, go to the Finalize step of the feed and choose 'ID' and Insights Dashboard -> 'Segmentation' as internal fields. Call the Segmentation “g:custom_label_0” for example.
Then, go to the Preview step of the feed and copy the link of the feed at the top. The final step is to go to your Merchant Center -> here you go to Feeds -> and add supplemental feed. Add the name of the feed, and choose Scheduled fetch. You can use this Help Center article as a reference. Add the link to the feed and upload it. Now, you can set up campaigns in Google Ads with the products with the specific label.
