Use our AI-powered background removal feature to remove the background from a product image. The result is an image with a transparent background, which you save in a separate project field.

Guidelines for the best results
- The color(s) of the product are different to background color(s)
- The background is quiet (blurred, few colors) rather than busy (details in many colors, other elements in the frame)
- The full product is visible in the photo:
- If the product is touching the border or only part of the product is visible in the photo, the AI model might remove too much because the sides of the image are mistaken for the background
- Size is at least 1024x1024 pixels:
- Small images: there is little detail to properly detect borders
- Large images: can be downscaled to the desired size afterwards when used in the image editor
How to remove the background from an image
There are two places you can set up background removal:
In the Creatives tab:
- Go to [your project] > Creatives > Image background removal.
- Click +New background removal rule.
OR
In the Image Editor:
- In the Image Editor, select the image that you want to remove the background from.
Important: You can only remove the background of images from your import data. - In the editing panel, click Remove background.
- In the pop up, set up the rule:
- At Original image field, select the field that contains the existing image URLs.
- At Save it in, select the field where you want to save the images without a background. Create a new field directly from the modal (recommended) by clicking on +Add new project field.
Note: Make sure that both fields are type ‘image’.
The images with removed backgrounds will be saved in the field you selected. You can use this field in the Image Editor to create templates, in rules and in the product data that you send to your chosen channel or ad generator.
When you go to Results, there may be fewer images than the amount of items in your project. This might happen if the same image URL is used for multiple items. For example, when there are multiple sizes and each size is a unique item in Channable.
Usage limits
- In Creatives > Image background removal, each project has a limit of five image fields that you can set up. This means that you can choose a maximum of five image fields containing images and set where the results will be saved.
- The number of images you can apply background removal to depends on your company's pricing plan (ranging from Medium Business to XXL Enterprise).
- When you reach this limit, an error will show in Results. For example, if your limit is 5,000 and you remove the background for 10,000 images, only the first 5,000 will be processed.
