What is Channable Insights?
Channable Insights lets you import both revenue and cost data from Channels over a certain date range into Channable. That way, the Channable tool can calculate new data such as ROAS (Return-On-A-Spend) as well as CPS (Cost Per Sale) at a product level.
Channable Insights can be used for online advertising channels with the CPC model such as Google Shopping and Marktplaats. Also, for CPS channels like: Amazon, Beslist, Bol.com, Cdiscount, eBay, fonQ, Fnac, Idealo, Kleertjes.com, Blokker Connect!, Real, ToBeDressed and Vida XL. For APIs it is necessary to have an order connection and for Google Shopping it's important to have at least a connection in Channable with a Google Analytics and/or Google Ads account.
The graph below shows what data can be retrieved from which platforms, and what can be calculated, for a CPC model (Google Shopping) and for a CPS model (Amazon):
Step 1 - Creating a Channable Insights Dashboard
Note: It's important to set a unique ID per item when importing, because different sources will be connected to each other. This can be set in the setup > project settings and this is usually set to "ID".
When you have done this, you can navigate to Setup > Setup Insights to create a Channable Insights Dashboard. Here you can select the channel you would like to collect data from, give it a name, choose the date range setting, select the date range for importing revenue and cost information.
Note: For Google Shopping you also need to select the revenue source. "Google Analytics" is the connection in Channable where we retrieve the fields "revenue" and "sessions" from. The others are conversion targets that you have defined in Google Ads from which we can also retrieve the "revenue" and "sessions". These depend on your configuration within Google Ads.
In addition, you can choose to group the revenue and cost information based on category/brand/any other data combination.
At the Date range setting you can choose between two options: rolling date and fixed date range.
Rolling date range is a moving date range, for example last 30 days or last 7 days. This is relative because it moves with the current date. A fixed date range has a fixed start and end date.
You can create multiple Insights dashboards for the same channel but for multiple date ranges and/or different data combinations.
IMPORTANT: If you choose to use Insights for Google Shopping, you may encounter the following message:
This means that you still have to fill in the 'cost connection'. You can do this by going to your Google Shopping feeds, and then to Settings > Cost settings. It is also possible that the Google Merchant ID is still missing, this can also be filled in under Settings > Cost settings.
IMPORTANT: You will need a Google Ads connection for this. Make sure you connect with a client account, not a manager account. More information can be found here. If you try to connect with a manager account, you will get this error message
Metrics cannot be requested for a manager account.
Step 2 - How can I view the Insights data?
Channable Insights has a separate view in the Channable dashboard. You can find this view under Dashboard > Dashboard Insights. Here you will find a graph that shows the revenue in comparison with the costs.
If you want to view the statistics at product level, you can click on this product and here you will also find a graph and a data overview.
Step 3 - Using Insights fields in the rules
Just like with our Google Analytics integration, you can use the Channable Insights fields in the rules. The fields you can use are revenue, units_sold, total_cost, cost, roas, commission, shipping_cost, profit and CPC or CPC (depending on the channel). To select these fields, click on the back arrow. If you have different Insights connections, you will see all the names you have given to these connections. Click on the connection from which you want to use the fields and get started!
