How to identify required attributes for your Amazon channel

When you set up an Amazon channel in Channable, we indicate mandatory fields that Amazon requires to list on their platform. However, some attributes are required for a specific product type if certain information is provided. For example, if you specify your product’s weight in one attribute, you need to specify the weight unit as well.

If you don't provide the correct attributes for your products, Amazon will reject your items, leading to errors in your channel. To avoid these errors, it's good practice to know exactly what Amazon expects from you. To do this, you can download an Amazon Inventory template.

What is an Amazon inventory template?

An Amazon inventory template is an Excel file that Amazon generates that lists all allowed attributes for a specific product category on Amazon.

Each template includes:

• A list of all possible attributes (both required and optional)

• A clear description of each attribute

• The valid values for certain attributes

It’s a helpful resource when you map attributes in the Build step.

How to download an Amazon inventory template

Log in to your Amazon account.

In the menu sidebar, go to Catalogue > Add products.

Click on the Spreadsheet tab and select Download Blank Template.

In the List products that are not currently on Amazon card, click Download product spreadsheet.

For Spreadsheet language, select the language you want your spreadsheet to appear in.

For Select the types of products you want to sell, enter a product keyword, title, or related product to the product type you want to get information for.

Click Select on the right category.

Repeat the previous selection steps for each category you have in Channable.

For Select the stores where you want to create offers, select the region you assigned to your Amazon channel in Channable.

Click Generate spreadsheet.

This downloads a zipped file that provides information about accepted values, descriptions, and translations of relevant attributes for your products.

Using Amazon’s inventory template in Channable

Once you have your inventory template, you can refer to it when providing attributes in the Build step of your Amazon channel to ensure your product data is accurate and complete.

1. Open your spreadsheet in compatible software (e.g. Excel, Google Sheets).

2. Review the Data Definitions and Template tabs for specific information on required attributes for your items.
