# Set up a feed - Mapping step

In the Mapping step, you need to map the internal Channable fields with the fields that your chosen channel requires.

Each channel has different field and format requirements. Channable indicates these and provides a description and example for these fields.

### Mapping fields

{% hint style="info" %}
Tip: Find out more about [field mapping](/get-started/getting-started/fields-in-channable/field-mapping-in-channable.md) in Channable.
{% endhint %}

If you have unmapped fields in the “Internal field” column, you need to select a field or [add a new field](/get-started/getting-started/fields-in-channable/map-and-add-fields.md). Then you can connect your product data fields to the export channel’s fields.

#### Mandatory fields

If these fields are not mapped, or the data is incorrect or incomplete, the channel will not accept or list your items.

#### Recommended fields

We recommend that you map these fields and ensure that the data is correct and complete, as their mandatory status depends on the item.

#### Optional fields

Map these fields and ensure that the data is correct and complete to improve the performance and visibility of your items.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Each export channel has different requirements for your data, so each feed has different mandatory, recommended and optional fields.
{% endhint %}
