# How to use conditional objects in the Image Editor

### What are conditional objects?

Conditional objects are a bit like mini [rules in Channable](/manage-improve-product-data/rules-bulk-edit-and-enrich/rules-in-channable.md) in the image editor (on object level). Just like the standard rules you use to clean up your product data, conditional objects follow a similar logic: “IF an item meets specific criteria, THEN the object performs an action” (show or hide).

Instead of applying a rule to your entire product catalog, you apply it to a specific layer or “object” in your image template such as a badge, a price tag, or brand logo.

{% hint style="info" %}

#### Example

If you have a “Sale” badge on your product images and you only want this badge to appear when a product is actually discounted.

Let’s say you want to hide it if the sale price field is empty:

You select the sale badge in the Image Editor and set the condition:

* “IF sale\_price is empty, THEN Hide this object.”
 {% endhint %}

### Show or hide objects

* **Show:** The object is invisible by default and only shows under certain conditions.

 e.g. a "Free Shipping" icon only appears if `shipping_cost` is `0`.
* **Hide:** The object is visible by default but is hidden under certain conditions.

 e.g. removing a "New Arrival" badge if the `created_date` is older than 30 days.

### How to use conditional objects

1. In the Image Editor, select the object you want to add a condition to.
2. In the **Design** tab, go to **Condition**, then click **Create condition**.

Not sure how conditions work? Learn more about rule conditions.

3. A **Condition** modal will show where you can set up the conditions for the object.\
 ![](/files/WZyndhT5PpAO77Dmnzey)
4. In **Options**, you can pause or delete the condition.

{% hint style="info" %}
You can also create a condition from the **Layers** tab. Find the object you want to set a condition for, and click the :split: icon.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}

#### Good to know

When an object is hidden by an active condition, it will not be visible on the canvas. But if you click on the object in the **Layers** tab then outline of the object will show on the canvas.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://helpcenter.channable.com/manage-improve-product-data/creatives-create-and-edit-images/create-an-image-template/how-to-use-conditional-objects-in-the-image-editor.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
