How to switch to the new Insights segmentation label names

Switch Google Ads Insights segmentation labels without disrupting live campaigns.

This guide is only for Google Ads Insights. If you use Bol Ads Insights or Amazon Ads Insights and would like to switch, request it and we will contact you to discuss the details.

We’re introducing new label names in the Insights dashboards for Ads. Learn more.

New label names:

Here’s how the label names are changing:

  • Stars → Heroes

  • Potentials → Sidekicks

  • Underperformers → Villains

  • Invisibles → Zombies

How this affects your dashboards

  • Automatically changed (as of July 13, 2026): If your dashboards do not actively use labels in the Rules or Mapping steps, they have already been updated to use the new labels automatically.

  • If you actively use labels: We have kept your previous label names active. We will not change these automatically, ensuring your live campaigns are not disrupted.

    • You prefer to keep the previous label names: No action is required and nothing changes on your dashboards.

    • You would like to switch to the new label names: Request a switch to the new labels when you're ready (before December 28, 2026).

Benefits of switching to new label names

  • Consistent dashboards (for agencies): If you manage multiple client accounts, switching allows you to maintain one consistent set of label names in every single dashboard you own.

  • Consistent terminology: Our future documentation and support materials will use these new label names.

What happens if I don't switch to the new label names?

If you prefer not not to switch, no action is required and your label names will remain as Stars, Potentials, Underperformers and Invisibles.

Good to know

This switch to new label names cannot be fully automated. Because these labels are tied directly to your live Google Ads campaigns, a successful switch requires tight coordination on your end to prevent your ads from stopping:

  • Before switching, ensure you completely understand the required steps and your label setup. Staying with your current label names removes the risk of human error, avoids campaign downtime, and keeps your Google Ads products running without interruption.

  • Make sure you review all channels where you use Insights to avoid products getting lost. For example, if you use data from the Insights dashboard for the Netherlands for Luxemburg to exclude Underperformers, don’t forget to make changes in both your NL and LUX channels.

  • The switch applies to your whole company. It’s not possible to switch some dashboards and keep the previous label names in others.

How the switch works

Once you request the switch via the banner on your Insights dashboard, our team will contact you via email to coordinate the exact date and time for the switch. We will work together to define the timeline so that you can ensure that your account is fully prepared.

Once the switch is complete for your Insights dashboard(s), Channable will begin sending new values in the segmentation field:

Previous value (before switching)
New value (after switching)

stars

heroes

potentials

sidekicks

underperformers

villains

invisibles

zombies

Risks and technical details

Before choosing to switch, please be aware of two technical details:

  • Google sync delay: Data synchronization between Channable, Google Merchant Center, and Google Ads is not instantaneous. After we switch the labels, it takes time for Google to process your products. The new label names will not appear as filter options in Google Ads until Google has fully processed the update. The duration depends on your product count and other parameters that we don’t control.

  • Empty campaign risk: If a Google Ads campaign filters for stars, but Channable is now sending heros, Google Ads will suddenly find zero products matching the previous filter. This will leave your campaign empty, excluding your products from advertising until you manually update the filter. Learn more about how to do this at Option 1.

How to switch to the new label names

If you decide to switch, you can choose one of these strategies:

Option 1: Switch to the new Insights names and manually update your campaigns in Google Merchant Center

We trigger the switch at the agreed time and Channable starts sending the new values.

Steps to complete after the scheduled switch

1

Synchronize your feed

Wait for Google to synchronize. Alternatively, trigger a refresh in Google Merchant Center > Settings > Data sources > [your feed] > Update.

2

Update your campaign filters

As soon as the new label names become available in your campaign filters, you need to manually switch every campaign to the new names:

  1. Go to Campaign > Select the campaign > Asset groups.

  2. Select the asset group. Then go to Listing groups.

    1. At a specific Listing group, click Edit subdivision and (once they show here) select the new custom labels using the checkboxes.

Option 2: Switch to the new Insights names and keep the previous names in Google Ads

Choose this option if you want to use the new label names in your Insights dashboards but you don’t mind using the previous names in Google Ads.

Steps to complete before the scheduled switch

1

Create a rule and project field

Before the switch, if you use the segmentation field in the Mapping or Build step or in the THEN part of rules, you need to create a rule and a new project field so that you can continue sending the previous label names to Google Ads:

IF segmentation is equal to Stars

THEN take custom_field and set value to Stars

custom_field is a field you create for this purpose. Repeat this for each label.

2

Map the new field

Map the new field to the custom field used for labels. This is custom_field in this example.

3

Switch to the new label names

Once you have completed this, we will change the label names to new ones. Google Ads will continue receiving previous label names.

Option 3: Switch to the new Insights names and update Google Ads using two custom labels

Before we start the label switch in Insights, you need to set up a temporary “bridge” using an additional custom label in Channable and Google Ads. This eliminates the data sync gap.

Steps to complete before the scheduled switch

1

Open your channel rules

In Channable, go to [your project] > Channels > [your Google Shopping channel] > Rules.

2

Create a rule for the new labels

Create a rule that adds the new label names before the switch. Add a new project field if needed.

3

Map the project field

In Mapping or Build, map the new project field to the unused custom label field. This is custom_label_1 in this example.

4

Run the channel

Click Run now.

5

Synchronize your feed

Wait for Google to synchronize or manually trigger Google Merchant Center to re-fetch your feed by going to Google Merchant Center > Settings > Data sources > [your feed] > Update.

  1. Check this in Google Merchant Center > Products & store > Products at the Labels column. Two label name sets should be available there in the two custom labels (in our example: previous names in custom_label_0 and new names in custom_label_1). Because you have not changed your initial custom label field, your live ads keep running normally using the previous labels.

6

Update your campaigns

Once the new names appear under the second custom label, switch all your campaigns to the new custom label and new label names in Google Ads:

  1. Go to Campaign > Select the campaign > Asset groups.

  2. Select the asset group and go to Listing groups.

    1. At a specific Listing group, click Edit subdivision and (once they show here) select the new custom labels using the checkboxes.

7

Complete the Insights switch

Now that your live ads are safely using the new names, we can switch your Insights Dashboard(s) to new label names. Then you can map the Insights segmentation field directly to the custom label you used in step 3 (custom_label_1 in our example) and remove the rule you created in step 2.
