# Acción de regla: establecer categoría
**Usado para:** establecer la categoría del canal de exportación para tu ítem.
**Utilizado en:** declaraciones "THEN" y declaraciones "ELSE".
La regla "definir categoría" actúa como una alternativa al paso de "categorías" que tiene cada canal de exportación. Normalmente, el paso de categorías es el más sencillo para asignar la categoría del canal de exportación a tus ítems, pero hay casos en los que las reglas hacen el trabajo más rápido y/o mejor.
Por ejemplo, tu tienda puede estar especializada en un tipo específico de ítem que todos encajan en una misma categoría del canal de exportación. En ese caso puede que quieras establecer la misma categoría para todos tus ítems —lo cual es más fácil de hacer con reglas. Además, algunos canales requieren que dividas tus ítems en, por ejemplo, ropa femenina y ropa masculina. En ese caso necesitarás reglas para comprobar el género y para verificar qué tipo de prenda es cada producto.
Mostraremos ambos ejemplos en las capturas de pantalla más abajo. La primera captura muestra cómo establecer la categoría para todos los ítems en tu feed.
