With our dynamic image editor, you can combine data and image optimization for impactful ads. Effortlessly generate optimized and hyper-relevant, product ads for social multichannel campaigns, directly from your feed, at scale.
1 Setting up essentials to get started with the image editor
In order to correctly start with the image editor, you have to make sure that all project fields that you are going to use for images are correctly mapped to Type: 'Image' in the import mapping. To check this, you will need to go to 'Setup' > 'Setup Import' > 'Edit mapping'. Here you click on 'Edit' behind the project field that you want to use and make sure the Type is set to 'Image'. This also goes for project fields that you created yourself and are not coming from the import directly. You can find these fields under 'Setup project fields', next to the 'Setup import' tab.
Important: Make sure that the images you want to use from your import are PNG, WebP, JPG, or JPEG files (other file types won’t work). The Image editor itself will only create PNG files.
2 Set up the feed you want to create new images for
The Image Editor can be used in combination with all feeds in our 'Feed'-section of the tool. First, you need a feed for the channel you want to create optimized images for. If you want to check if images are generated correctly before sending them to the advertising channel, it’s recommended to start with a feed that’s not used on a channel yet. You can either create a new feed, or copy an existing feed to get started.
3 Set up a first image rule
In this case, we will use the example of an Instagram Feed. In this feed, you go to ‘Rules > Image rules’ to create an image rule. Click 'New rule' and give the rule a name.
4 Create template
Now you can start creating your first template. Open the ‘select a template’ dropdown menu and select ‘+ New template’. Give the template a name and click ‘Create’. This will bring you to the image editor itself.
First, you choose the correct size for your canvas. Then, you build your template by adding objects like 'Image', 'Text' or 'Shape' which you can find in the top left corner of your template. In this article, we explain everything in depth about the different elements of the image editor, like the canvas, the grid and all the different settings. For now, let's start with adding the different objects to the canvas.
4.1 Add image object
- Add an image object by clicking on ‘Image’ and then 'Add dynamic image'. This will open an empty image object. To select an image for an object, click on 'Design' in the menu on the right.
Then click on the drop-down next to 'Image field' and choose the image field that you want to use for this object:
More information about the different settings of the image objects can be found here.
4.2 Add text object
- Add a text object by clicking on ‘Text’. Go to the 'Design' tab and edit the 'value' field by adding a static text. You can also add dynamic text by connecting a project field. This text value can also be a combination of a static text + dynamic text (example below).
More information about text settings can be found here.
4.3 Add shape object and change the order of the objects
A third object option is to add a shape object to your template. Add a static shape by clicking ‘Shape’ in the top left corner. Use the 'Design' tab to change the appearance of the shape. In the example below, you see that the shape is displayed in front of the text. To change this order, you click on 'Objects' and drag the just created shape object under the text object, by clicking and dragging the object using the icon with the three stripes. When you are finished, make sure to press 'Save' in the top right corner.
More information about shape object settings can be found here.
5 Apply templates to products
Now that your template is finished, it is time to apply this template to the products you want. First, you click on 'Back' in the top left corner, which brings you back to the rule you just created. Then click on 'Select a template' in the THEN-part of the rule. Here, you choose the template that you just created.
If you do not want to apply the template to all your items, but just to a selected part, make sure you set the right conditions in the IF-part of the rule.
6 Open existing templates to edit
If you would like to use an existing template, but you would like to edit it first, make sure you go to 'Select a template' and select one of the templates you created earlier in the dropdown menu. After selecting the correct template, you click on 'Image editor' which will bring you to the Image Editor and the template you selected.
7 View results
When you have finished your template and applied it to the products you want to add the images for, it is time to look at the results of these images. Click on 'Preview results' on the right side of the image rule. This will bring you to an overview where you can see the results of your template applied to all your selected images.
8 Store the Image URL and set safety settings
When you are happy with the results, go back to your image rule and select an image field to store the new image URL. Then click 'Save rule' and continue to the 'Finalize' step in your feed. Here, please make sure to connect the correct internal image field to the channel field name. After that, you click 'Save & run' to generate the feed.
Once the feed is done, you can find the generated image URL in the preview step of the feed. These URLs start with: https://channableusercontent.com/
If there are any errors while generating the images, the feed will fail to run. You will be able to see the errors in the ‘status’ tab of the feed and in an email notification (if you have enabled this option for yourself as a user). You can change the feed behavior in case of errors via the ‘safety settings’ in the feed:
If you happen to come across errors in the image editor, we direct you to this article, where we dive into the cause and solution of common errors. If the error persists, or you did not find the information to solve it, you can always contact us, and we'll assist you with the process.
