Adding assets to Performance Max asset groups
Performance Max Assets are different types of objects available on your Google account to be used for the creation of Ads. This article explains how to add assets to your Performance Max generators. If you are looking for an article on how to set up Performance Max campaigns, please see this article.
To make use of the assets uploaded or created on Google, they need to be assigned to one or multiple asset groups. These asset groups will then use the assigned assets to create the best Ads for your products.
Assets are categorized in different types, and Google limits how many of each type of asset can be linked to an asset group. All types of assets have a maximum number that can be linked to an individual asset group.

Link Assets to Asset groups in the tool
In Channable, assets are configured inside the asset group generator level. The assets you set for a generator will be linked to all the asset groups that the generator creates.
To have different assets linked to an asset group, you have two options:
Creating Assets for your Performance Max Campaign
When setting up your asset group generators for a Performance Max generator, go to the Build step and select the Assets tab.
When using dynamic fields, keep in mind there’s a limit on how many assets of each type can be linked to an asset group. If the field you’re using has more values than the limit, not all assets will be created and linked.
Text assets
In the Text assets section, click the Add headline/Add description buttons to include fields in your setup. You can use static text, dynamic fields, or a combination of both.
Image assets
In the Image assets section, click the Add dropdown menu buttons to include new fields in your setup. The dropdown offers two options:
Add by name Add a field that requires names of image assets already uploaded to Google. Channable will find the image by the given names on Google and link them to the asset groups.
Add by name image Add by URL Add a field that requires URLs of images that have been uploaded to Channable through your imports. Channable will find the image, upload it to Google, and link it to the asset groups.
Add by URL image
Important notes for image assets:
The fields used for Add by URL (e.g., image_link) must be imported as Image type when setting up the mapping for your import.
Mapping image field type When you map a field as an Image type, that field should contain URLs to images as its values. These URLs will be used by the tool to download the image and store it for image assets.
Google imposes a total limit for Image assets per asset group of 20.
Video Assets
In the Video Assets section, click the Add Youtube URL button to include new fields. You can use a static link, dynamic fields, or a combination.
Beware of the YouTube link format. Different formats exist and Channable currently supports the most commonly used formats. If your link format is not supported, contact Support.
Call to Action Assets
In the Call to Action section, choose one of the predefined values from the drop-down menu. By default, Channable will use the value: "Automated", emulating the behavior of new setups by Google.
Can I add and remove Assets in the Google interface?
Can I add and remove Assets in the Google interface?
It is possible to add new assets through the Google interface and link them to asset groups. If you use Google’s interface to add assets to an asset group, they are not managed by Channable. For example, if you set 5 text headlines in Channable and then set 5 different ones manually through Google, the asset group will have 10 headlines, but only 5 will be managed by Channable.
Text Assets
If you add a Text asset to an asset group that is not set in Channable, Channable will not remove that asset. If the text asset link is set in Channable, Channable will take control of it: it will remove the asset from Google if it’s removed from Channable, and add it back to Google if it’s manually removed on Google.
Image Assets — Add by name
You are expected to add Image assets to the Google assets library manually through Google’s interface before using Image assets by name in Channable.
Image Assets — Add by URL
Channable uploads and creates the Image assets on Google when you use Add by URL. You can’t create these manually through Google and then add them in Channable by URL—use Add by name for that case instead.
Video Assets
Channable will only take control of YouTube Video assets that have been added to the Channable setup. If a video has been added manually on Google and is not part of the Channable setup, it won’t be updated by Channable.
If a new or existing YouTube video asset is added to the Channable setup, Channable will take control and update it. Once under Channable control, it will be removed if removed from the setup, and added back if removed from Google manually.
Call to Action Assets
By default, when an asset group is created on Google, the Call to Action asset is set to "Automated". If this value is changed outside Channable, Channable will not take control and the value won’t be updated. To have Channable take back control, set the Call to Action value back to "Automated" on Google and then update it in Channable to the desired value.
Removing assets through the Google interface
It is possible to remove the link between assets and asset groups through the Google interface. If you remove an asset from an asset group that is not set in Channable, Channable will not link it again. If the removed link is one that is set in Channable, Channable will recreate the link to the asset group.
